How much should I be doing?

Any increase in activity will benefit your health but it is recommended by specialists that:

  • Children & young people should build up a minimum of 60 minutes of moderate physical activity per day.
  • Adults should aim for 30 minutes of moderate physical activity per day.

Moderate physical activity does not mean you need to run a marathon or cycle the Tour de France. Although these would be great, all you need to do is walk the dog, cycle to and from  school,  some skipping at play time or join an extra curriculer Activity Club.

Ask your Active Schools Coordinator what’s on in your area.

How could I feel the benefits?

Getting active is an essential part of maintaining your health & wellbeing. Research has proven that physical activity can help reduce the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes – as well as relieve stress and anxiety.

It can give you more confidence, reduce the risk of common illnesses (e.g. obesity, heart disease) and gives you more energy. It also has social benefits and is lots of fun.
